Last night I was lucky enough to be able to attend a little concert at the historic Cain's in downtown Tulsa- thanks to Barbara Jones at
http://one2onenetwork.com/. Admittedly, I'd never heard of
Brandi Carlile until Tuesday. Where was she hiding?

I invited a local blogworld friend and we set out, unsure what we were up for- but we were not disappointed. The music of the opener,
Amy Ray was even great, with a very Melissa Etheridge-esque sound. Carlile, sang a on a few of her songs- before she debuted on stage later. Having only heard a couple of songs from the new album
Give Up the Ghost
, just released October 6--there was not one song I did not enjoy during the concert. They are very well written, and have some great guitar (a personal fave). She opened with a bit of an acapella number with the whole band which was incredible. Later, they did a song entirely unplugged. And I mean entirely. It was also amazing, just as the acoustic set we also got to hear. She talked to the audience some, giving background before performing some songs- which I enjoyed. Knowing where a song comes from is a little intriguing, at least to me. I especially enjoyed her anecdote of meeting Elton John who produced the Caroline track from the new CD. Then later- she even sang us some Johnny Cash & Tammy Wynette (also a fave), and then ended with a wonderful rendition of
Hallelujah- (you know the one made famous by Shrek.)

But, the great show didn't end there! We were fortunate enough to go backstage, get an autograph, have a picture- and enjoyed meeting the very sweet, down to earth Brandi (as well as her band & Amy Ray). Having never gone backstage before anywhere- it was quite a treat! I highly recommend checking Brandi out either on:
Give Up the Ghost
,
The Story
, or
Brandi Carlile - Brandi Carlile + ( Bonus Tracks )
. She has amazing music & a great voice. It was a nice surprise and a great evening of music.
